Taking a 12-Year-Old PT & Accreditation Business Online
Took a 12-year-old B2B proficiency-testing and accreditation business from offline to online. It had grown to around 1,500 lab customers run on paper, email, phone calls, and Excel sheets — that was the ceiling. I built the platform that replaced all of it, and the business is now past 2,000 labs.
Overview
Beatus is India's first NABL-accredited proficiency testing provider, running PT programs for labs across the country. Before this project, every enrolment, sample submission, and report was handled by hand over email, phone, and Excel sheets — a process that had scaled the business to about 1,500 labs and then stopped scaling. I designed and built the platform that replaced that manual workflow end to end: enrolment, evidence submission, staff-lab communication, and reporting, all owned by one system. Since launch the business has grown past 2,000 labs on the new platform.
What I Built
Took a 12-year-old B2B proficiency-testing and accreditation business from offline to online. It had grown to around 1,500 lab customers on paper, email, phone calls, and Excel sheets, and that was the ceiling: every enrolment, submission, and report was handled by hand. I built the platform that replaced all of it, and the business is now past 2,000 labs.
Moved test submissions off email attachments. Labs now upload evidence straight to S3 using multipart uploads with presigned per-part URLs, so the backend only opens and closes the upload rather than carrying the bytes itself. It moves 10 to 15 GB a day, with live per-part progress and a cancel button that also cleans up the parts already sitting in the bucket.
Replaced phone and email coordination with real-time chat between labs and staff over WebSockets, with read receipts, presence, and paginated history.
Owned the security model for a multi-tenant system holding commercially sensitive lab data: role-based authorization across every surface, tenant isolation enforced on all data, file, and messaging paths, and a hardened upload and storage layer.
